Description
The Praying Mantis got its name from the position of its forelegs. The front legs appear to be folded in prayer when in the resting position. This Praying Mantis was found on the outside center of a butterfly bush. Though I was at this site for quite a while, the Praying Mantis did not make any movement. Some mantis species are dependent on having good camouflage that prevents predators from eating them. Others mantis species have a more simple look. The many projections on their body in the shape of branches, dead leaves, or flower petals, for instance, allow them to be well camouflaged. They can have varied colors including brown, green, white, pink, yellow or a color mix. Most Praying Mantis colors are green, brown or sandy without being modified. This one was well-seen as the coloring appeared to be a pinkish or sandy color against the green bush.
