Description
"Angels We Have Heard On High" Hymn, English version by James Chadwick 1862, Roman Catholic Bishop of Hexam and Newcastle. Original hymn written by an unknown Author in Languedoc, France. This Carol tells the story of the birth of Jesus Christ (Gospel of Luke), where outside of Bethlehem shepherds encounter a multitude of angels singing and praising the newborn child.
"Angels we have heard on high
Sweetly singing o’er the plains,
And the mountains in reply
Echoing their joyous strains.
Refrain: Gloria, in excelsis Deo! Gloria, in excelsis Deo!
Shepherds, why this jubilee?
Why your joyous strains prolong?
What the gladsome tidings be
Which inspire your heav’nly song?
Come to Bethlehem and see
Christ Whose birth the angels sing;
Come, adore on bended knee,
Christ the Lord, the newborn King.
See Him in a manger laid,
Whom the choirs of angels praise;
Mary, Joseph, lend your aid,
While our hearts in love we raise."
The angels shown in the photograph were hand-crafted of wood and painted. They are beautifully displayed in the yard at Christmastime.
